Entela Kasi , Portrait of an Albanian (Jewish) poet

Tomorrow, Wednesday, July 8 at 6:00 pm During the program "Talk in Two in Four Eyes, Hava Pinhas-Cohen talks with writers from the Jewish world. A program that is a collaboration between Radio Melitz and the Writers Association, will talk to Albanian poet Antella Cassie. I met Entela few years ago in Belgrade. The moment we met, I liked her. I felt that she is a poet and woman involved deep in the culture of her country, of her language .Something in her eyes is different, And I liked it.

Entela Kasi  – Albanian PEN President and Ambassador for Peace. Poetess, novelist, translator and essayist. She is author of many books into Albanian and foreign languages, and also a well known intellectual in the cultural life of Albania. She has worked for ‘In search Committee’ of PEN International.

She is awarded national and international awards in literature, and her works are translated in different languages. She also writes for the Albanian journals and daily press within the focus in social movements, culture and politics. She has also been invited as the guest writer by different Universities in Albania and abroad.

Her poetry is translated and published in different anthologies, magazines and literary reviews into Macedonian, Serbian, Turkish, Bulgarian, Romanian, Italian, German, French, English  and many other languages.

She is awarded with the title ‘Univesrum Dona’ and ‘Honorary Academician’ accredited by the International University of Peace Studies, in Lugano Switzerland and by ‘Universum Academy’.Actually she works for the Catholic University- “The Lady of Good Council’, in Tirana- Albania.She writes into Albanian and English.

, 2019 Entela Kasi was invited to the 5th Kisufim conference and that was a good oportunity to translate some of her poems. Here are 2 of her poems and the first one is about her grandmother Hana, her Jewish Grandmother.

אנטלה קסי

אִם הָעוֹלָם הוּא פִּרְאִי, חָנָה

הָעוֹלָם פִּרְאִי, חָנָה

הָעוֹר הָרָקוּב מִמֶּלַח הַחֲלוֹמוֹת הוּא הַנְּיָר

עָלָיו תִּכְתְּבִי אֶת הַסִּפּוּר שֶׁלָּנוּ

עִם צִבְעֵי הָאֲדָמָה, לֶהָבוֹת וּמַיִם

תְּעַצְּבִי אֶת הָעוֹלָם כֻּלּוֹ בִּשְׁלֵמוּת

הָעוֹלָם הַזֶּה שֶׁשּׁוֹפֵךְ מִדֵּי פַּעַם

בָּשָׂר וְעֶצֶם.

אִם הָאֲרֻבָּה נוֹפֶלֶת מַטָּה, חָנָה..

הָאֵפֶר יִשָּׁאֵר בְּתוֹךְ הָאָח

הַכּוֹכָבִים יְכַנְּסוּ מֵאַבְנֵי הַיְּסוֹד

שֶׁל בֵּית הַסָּבְתָא שֶׁלָּךְ

הָאוֹר יִמָּתַח כְּאִלּוּ יִמְתַּח אֶת יָדָיו

שֶׁבַּעֲבַר נַהָג לְכַסּוֹת טַבָּק

עִם דַּפֵּי נְיַר עִתּוֹן.

הַיָּרֵחַ יַרְאֶה לְךָ אֶת צִדּוֹ הָאַחֵר

הַמָּלֵא בַּמִּלִּות אֵם רַכּוֹת כְּמֶשִׁי

עַד אֲשֶׁר יְמַלֵּא לְתוֹךְ כֶּתֶר הַשָּׂמִים..

הָעוֹנוֹת יִתְחַלְּפוּ, חָנָה

הַפֵּרוֹת יַרְקִיבוּ

רִמּוֹנִים, תַּפּוּזִים וְזֵיתִים

יִתָּכֵן שֶׁכְּמוֹ עֵינֶיהָ הַיָּפוֹת

מוּאָרוֹת עַל יְדֵי עֶצֶב הַחַיִּים

הַתַּפּוּחִים יִפְּלוּ מַטָּה

וְהָעֵצִים לֹא יִשָּׁבְרוּ

הָעַרְמוֹנִים יִתְפּוֹצְצוּ עַל רֹאשֵׁךְ הַיָּפֶה

הַצֶּבַע יִשָּׁאֵר בִּשְׂעָרֵךְ

יִרְקֹד בָּרוּחַ לְלֹא הֶרֶף

אַתְּ תִּרְאִי אֶת הָאֲדָמָה בַּמָּקוֹם בּוֹ זַרְעֵי הַחַיִּים יְשֵׁנִים

מִתַּחַת לְשֶׁלֶג

גַּרְעִינִי זָעָה, זַרְעֵי תִּקְוָה

בָּלֶרִינָה שֶׁלִּי, אַתְּ תִּרְקְדִי עַל הַקֶּרַח

וַאֲנִי אֶהְיֶה הַפַּרְפַּר הַזֶּה בְּמָקוֹם כָּלְשֶׁהוּ סְבִיב הַלֶּהָבוֹת

רַק אָז, בִּתִּי

אַתְּ תִּלְמְדִי לֶאֱהֹב אֶת כָּל הָאֲנָשִׁים,

לַמְרוֹת הַמְּרִירוּת, עֶצֶב, מַחֲלָה וְטֵרוּף

אַתְּ תִּרְאִי הַכֹּל, חָנָה

תִּשְׁכְּבִי עַל מִשְׁכָּבֵךְ מִכְּאֵב

לִבֵּךְ יִשָּׁבֵר,

וְאָז תַּעֲלִי שׁוּב,

אַתְּ תְּטַפְּסִי מַעְלָה עַל הָהָר,

תִּשְׁתִּי דְּבַשׁ וְיַיִן

וְתִהְיִי אִם וְרַעְיָה

וּלְעוֹלָם תִּשָּׁאֲרִי בַּת וְאָחוֹת,

יַלְדַּת אוֹר מְתוּקָה

אֶת הָאוֹר הַקָּדוֹשׁ שֶׁל הַחַיִּים, חָנָה

הָעוֹר הָרָקוּב הוּא הָאֲדָמָה

שֶׁל הַבַּיִת הַשָּׁבוּר

בְּאִי רָחוֹק רוֹקֵד עִם גַּמָּדִים
